Using event-related potentials (ERPs), this study examines how trait information inferred from behaviors is associated with person names. In linguistic discourses, person names were associated with descriptions of either positive or negative behaviors. In a subsequent explicit evaluation task, the previously described person names were presented in isolation, and the participants were asked to judge the emotional valence of these names. We found that the names associated with positive descriptions elicited a larger positivity in the ERP than the names associated with negative descriptions. The results indicate that the emotional valence of person names attached to person perception can be dynamically influenced by short descriptions of the target person, probably due to trait inference based on the provided behavioral descriptions.
The Dutch version of the Brief Illness Perception Questionnaire is an appropriate instrument for measuring patients' perceptions in acute low back pain patients, showing acceptable internal consistency and reliability. Concurrent validity is adequate, however, the instrument may be unsuitable for detecting changes in low back pain perception over time.

Since the arrival of cinema, film theorists have studied how spectators perceive the representations that the medium offers to our senses. Early film theorists have bent their heads over what cinema is, how cinema can be seen as art, but also over what cinema is capable of. One of the earliest film theorists, Hugo Münsterberg argued in 1916 that the uniqueness of cinema, or as he calls it photoplay, lies in the way it offers the possibility to represent our mental perception and organisation of the reality, or the world we live in: “the photoplay tells us the human story by overcoming the forms of the outer world, namely, space, time, and causality, and by adjusting the events to the forms of the inner world, namely, attention, memory, imagination, and emotion” (Münsterberg [1916] 2004, 402)

Every year the police are confronted with an ever increasing number of complex cases involving missing persons. About 100 people are reported missing every year in the Netherlands, of which, an unknown number become victims of crime, and presumed buried in clandestine graves. Similarly, according to NWVA, several dead animals are also often buried illegally in clandestine graves in farm lands, which may result in the spread of diseases that have significant consequences to other animals and humans in general. Forensic investigators from both the national police (NP) and NWVA are often confronted with a dilemma: speed versus carefulness and precision. However, the current forensic investigation process of identifying and localizing clandestine graves are often labor intensive, time consuming and employ classical techniques, such as walking sticks and dogs (Police), which are not effective. Therefore, there is an urgent request from the forensic investigators to develop a new method to detect and localize clandestine graves quickly, efficiently and effectively. In this project, together with practitioners, knowledge institutes, SMEs and Field labs, practical research will be carried out to devise a new forensic investigation process to identify clandestine graves using an autonomous Crime Scene Investigative (CSI) drone. The new work process will exploit the newly adopted EU-wide drone regulation that relaxes a number of previously imposed flight restrictions. Moreover, it will effectively optimize the available drone and perception technologies in order to achieve the desired functionality, performance and operational safety in detecting/localizing clandestine graves autonomously. The proposed method will be demonstrated and validated in practical operational environments. This project will also make a demonstrable contribution to the renewal of higher professional education. The police and NVWA will be equipped with operating procedures, legislative knowledge, skills and technological expertise needed to effectively and efficiently performed their forensic investigations.
De postdoc kandidaat, Tanja Moerdijk, zal op structurele wijze de reeds door haar gemaakte verbinding tussen het lectoraat Marine Biobased Specialties (MBBS) en de opleiding Chemie van HZ University of Applied Sciences verder uitbouwen en bestendigen. Streven is dat het MBBS Bioprospecten onderzoek zichtbaar is in alle studiejaren van de opleiding Chemie en praktijkcasuïstiek structureel ingebracht wordt in het curriculum. De postdoc is daarom betrokken bij alle studiejaren van de opleiding. Zij zal de ontwikkeling van een geïntegreerde onderzoeksleerlijn in het Chemie curriculum coördineren, welke gevoed wordt vanuit het MBBS onderzoeksprogramma waardoor inbedding van onderzoek in de opleiding wordt geborgd. Verdieping, overdracht en deling van kennis met betrekking tot het chemische smaak- en textuurprofiel van zeewier zal uitgevoerd worden door zowel postdoc als studenten door te participeren in het uitvoeren van praktijkgericht onderzoek aan (polymeer)moleculen uit zeewier in samenwerking met de zeewierproducenten. Deze kennis zal uiteindelijk bijdragen aan een duurzame productie en verwerking van zeewier tot eindproducten voor de consument. Omdat het onderwerp breed en maatschappelijke relevant is, creëert het bovendien de mogelijkheid voor andere opleidingen en onderzoeksgroepen om de verbinding eenvoudig te kunnen oppakken. De postdoc gaat de daadwerkelijke verbinding maken tussen onderzoekers, docenten en studenten. De postdoc ontwikkelt tevens projectleiderschapsvaardigheden door het volgen van een training en door lopende projecten binnen het MBBS onderzoek te benutten om samenwerking met (inter)nationale kennisinstellingen en bedrijven uit te bouwen. De postdoc zal begeleid en ondersteund worden in de uitvoering van haar activiteiten door lector en opleidingscoördinator (olc) (onder andere on the job en formele planningsafspraken), Centre of Expertise Biobased Economy (CoE BBE) alsmede het HZ kernteam CoE BBE (uitbouwen netwerk). Het personeelsbeleid en functiereeks onderwijs en onderzoek van de HZ voorzien in de ontwikkelingsmogelijkheid van de postdoc.
Being objective as a journalist indicates a distance to your sources and maintaining the role of a neutral bystander. This principle echoes in journalism education; generally speaking, to call something objective is a compliment and to say something is subjective is a warning. This journalistic role perception faces criticism since the late twentieth century. There’s extensive scholarly research looking to bridge the gap between objectivism and subjectivism, but journalistic education still widely prioritizes a binary perception of these principles, putting a strong emphasis on objective reporting. This PD aims to integrate artistic practices into journalism education that advocate a more balanced approach of the assumed objective-subjective dichotomy. One such approach is live journalism, where the artistic method extends to productional outcome, usually in the form of a journalistic narrative brought before a live audience. Research shows that, whereas visitors still think such productions should be fact-based, the fact that journalists had (made) a personal connection to their subject was seen as essential to the credibility of their work. This presupposes that journalism in this context is not merely a profession, but rather a person carrying out a profession. This PD intends to not only accept a certain subjectivity, but to explore its potential in journalism education. It plays with the concept not as being or becoming personally opinionated as a journalist, but as subjecting the self as a reporter. Research shows that for journalists, such an active connection to a target audience and an attitude to want to hear more than an answer to a question leads to a more representative understanding of the position and predicaments of a social group. In this light, the objective and subjective do not present themselves as a T-junction where the journalist chooses either one or the other; they appear in mutuality.
