R&D Project Leader
Harald Warmelink (PhD) is a R&D project leader at Breda University of Applied Sciences, the Netherlands. He works on the design, development, use and evaluation of serious/simulation games for policy analysis, decision-making, management and organization, as well as their gamification. He also works on one serious/simulation game in particular: MSP Challenge Simulation Platform (www.mspchallenge.info). His projects are affiliated to the three professorships of Igor Mayer, Mata Haggis-Burridge and Marnix van Gisbergen.
His teaching mostly concerns facilitating game-based learning using MSP Challenge with several universities, notably University of Oldenburg, University of Gothenburg and NOVIA University of Applied Sciences. He occasionally also teaches serious/simulation game design and evaluation. In the past he taught this at Delft University of Technology (faculty of Technology, Policy and Management) and HKU University of the Arts Utrecht (School of Games & Interaction). At HKU he helped redesign the Creative Media and Game Technologies curriculum.
He obtained his PhD degree at Delft University of Technology (faculty of Technology, Policy and Management) in 2013 with the thesis ‘Towards Playful Organizations’, for which he won the German Simulation and Gaming Award in 2015. He is the author of the book Online Gaming and Playful Organization (2014, Routledge) and has published in diverse journals, including British Journal of Educational Technology, Simulation and Gaming, Journal of Business Research, and Organization Studies.
