Emile Bijk studied Communication science and Information Technology at the Radboud University Nijmegen. After a career as project manager of Multi Media project for a small SME company he became affiliated with the Utrech School of the Arts, where he became head of the Information and Infrastructure department. In this position he co-ordinated institutional projects on eLearning, gradually involving in managing national e-learning and e-research contracts. In 1998 he started co-ordinating research programs at a European level, starting as project manager for CITE (an organisation founded by the HKU) and after founding the URIDC continuing these activities with an emphasis on product and ICT solution development.
