Quality Soil as a Pathway to Healthy Food in the EU

Soil quality is directly linked to food quality and quantity. However the globalisation and the pressure to increase the agricultural production results to deterioration of the environment, climate change and a serious threat to human and animal health. Soil contamination effected by the environmental pollution is one of the most pressing issues in the political and expertise debate on food safety within the related EU policies as Common agricultural policy, EU agri-environmental, EU food policy and EU health policy. Numerous studies have shown that heavy metals can accumulate in tissues, subsequently affect organ functions, and disrupt the reproductive, nervous or endocrine system. Therefore, the health status in relation to xenobiotics should be monitored and explored. The international scientific conference „Quality Soil as a Pathway to Healthy Food in the EU- Challenges to 2030“ aimed to highlight challenges of the food and feed management on the EU until 2030, including identification of risk factors for food and feed production, food chain, and sustainable agriculture. At the conference experts from 9 EU countires presented their latest research results related to soil and food quality and their visions and proposals how to decrease the negative effects of contamination of soil and food.

Communicative and behavioral interventions to increase sustainability

We collected, reviewed and edited articles submitted to Sustainability on the topic of communicative and behavioral interventions to increase sustainability.In this Special Issue, we would like to highlight research on interventions. How we can find interventions that help in encouraging (sustainable or less consumption) the use of fossil-free methods of transport, the implementation of renewable energy, etc. We invite you to submit your work to this Special Issue on “Communicative and Behavioral Interventions to Increase Sustainability” that contribute to the establishment of a sustainable future. We would like to collect a Special Issue that highlight evidence-based interventions to change behavior to establish the sustainable society.This Special Issue is positioned to bring together the best work on communicative and behavioral interventions. It can include (but is not limited to) dialogue, stakeholder engagement, educational programs, nudging, community building, corporate social responsibility (CSR), social innovations, etc. We would like you to focus on evidence-based interventions and encourage practical insights or ideas for applications of findings

Rethinking tourist wellbeing through the concept of slow adventure.

The necessity for humans inhabiting the 21st century to slow down and take time to carry out daily practices frames the discourse of this research note. We suggest reconceptualising tourist wellbeing through the concept of slow adventure, as a response to the cult of speed and as a vehicle for engaging in deep, immersive and more meaningful experiences during journeys in the outdoors. We suggest that slow adventure has the potential to improve people’s general health and wellbeing through mindful enjoyment and consumption of the outdoor experience and thus bring people back to a state of mental and physical equilibrium. In so doing, we argue that extending the concept to include discussions around the psychological and social aspects of slow adventure is needed.

Supply Chain Management and sustainability: procrastinating integration in mainstream research

Research has pointed out opportunities and research agendas to integrate sustainability issues with supply chain and operations management. However, we find that it is still not mainstream practice to systematically take a sustainability approach in tackling supply chain and operations management issues. In this paper, we make use of behavioral theory to explain the current lack of integration. We conclude through abductive reasoning that the reasons for procrastinating integration of sustainability in supply chain and operations management research are the conflicting nature of the task and the inherent context, which is the focus on operations rather than environmental or social issues.

The ‘Living Q’ an interactive method for actor engagement in transnational marine spatial planning

The interaction of stakeholders is regarded key in modern environmental and spatial planning. Marine/maritime spatial planning (MSP) is an emerging marine policy domain, which is of great interest worldwide. MSP practices are characterized by diverse approaches and a lack of transnational cooperation. Actors with various backgrounds have to identify mismatches and synergies to jointly aim towards coherent and coordinated practices. The ‘Living Q’ is a communication method to make actors aware systematically about their viewpoints in an interactive, communicative and playful environment, while it draws on results of a proceeding ‘Q Methodology’ study. Results from ‘Living Q’ exercises with international expert’s groups from European Sea basins show that the method is capable to foster communication and interaction among actors participating in ‘Living Q’ exercises, while having the potential to generate added value to planning processes by actor interaction in a collaborative setting.
