Culture of the Selfie is an in-depth art-historical overview of self-portraiture, using a set of theories from visual studies, narratology, media studies, psychotherapy, and political principles. Collecting information from various fields, juxtaposing them on the historical time-line of artworks, the book focuses on space in self-portraits, shared between the person self-portraying and the viewer. What is the missing information of the transparent relationship to the self and what kind of world appears behind each selfie? As the ‘world behind one’s back’ is gradually taking larger place in the visual field, the book dwells on a capacity of selfies to master reality, the inter-mediate way and, in a measure, oneself.
Safety culture has been a topic of discussion in safety literature in the past three decades. Since its first mentioning after the Chernobyl accident much have been written about what fosters a positive safety culture within organizations. The Aviation Academy of the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences conducted a literature review into safety culture development guidelines and identified a list of 37 prerequisites for safety culture development. Existing safety culture assessment tools target to measure the subjective perceptions of the workforce without examining the parameters affecting safety culture. Thus, they cannot be used to provide the organisations with guidance on the action points for improving their safety culture. To accommodate the need for practical guidance to companies, and as part of four-year research into Aviation Safety Metrics, the Aviation Academy has developed the AVAC-SCP tool, which aims to shed light on the planning and implementation for developing a safety culture. Knowledge experts and companies have reviewed the tool as a means to meet various criteria referred to literature with regards to safety metrics. The tool will enable organisations to derive actionable points from the results. A scoring method is included in the AVAC-SCP in order provide organizations with the ability to monitor their performance over time, compare between departments, and prioritize changes. The concept, academic background, reviews and other characteristics of the AVAC-SCP are discussed.
Erasmus project about training cultural workers for facilitating rural youths culture
In tijden van toenemende culturele diversiteit en arbeidsonzekerheid hebben jongeren in Nederlandse en Duitse stadswijken grote behoefte aan richting met betrekking tot hun toekomstige leven. Ouders en leraren lijken zelf vaak te worden overweldigd door de snel veranderende wereld waarin ze leven. Naast deze veranderingen neemt het gebruik van sociale media sterk toe, waardoor de al bestaande generatiekloof nog groter wordt. Deze ontwikkelingen hebben grote gevolgen voor de levensloopperspectieven van jongeren en leiden er vaak toe dat ze meer dan ooit richting zoeken bij hun leeftijdgenoten. In plaats van dit te zien als een problematische situatie, is dit project erop gericht de netwerken van jongeren te gebruiken als bron voor verbetering van de stadswijken. Het basisidee is jonge adolescenten (in de leeftijd van 12-14 jaar) te empoweren via bepaalde leeftijdgenoten die al gerespecteerd, verantwoordelijk en stabiel in het leven staan. Deze ‘homies’ (vier Nederlandse en vier Duitse jongeren) worden getraind en begeleid door experts op het gebied van oplossingsgericht denken en inspirerende communicatie. Daarna gaan de homies aan de slag in hun eigen wijk, waar ze drie maanden actief zullen zijn. De meeste communicatie met hun leeftijdgenoten zal verlopen via mobiele communicatie en sociale medianetwerken. In het begeleidende onderzoek wordt een analyse gemaakt van de leefsituatie van jongeren in de geselecteerde wijken voor en na de tussenkomst van de homies. De homies houden zelf een (mobiel) dagboek bij dat inzicht zal bieden in hoe zij zelf de veranderingen bij de jongeren in hun wijk zien.
The transition towards an economy of wellbeing is complex, systemic, dynamic and uncertain. Individuals and organizations struggle to connect with and embrace their changing context. They need to create a mindset for the emergence of a culture of economic well-being. This requires a paradigm shift in the way reality is constructed. This emergence begins with the mindset of each individual, starting bottom-up. A mindset of economic well-being is built using agency, freedom, and responsibility to understand personal values, the multi-identity self, the mental models, and the individual context. A culture is created by waving individual mindsets together and allowing shared values, and new stories for their joint context to emerge. It is from this place of connection with the self and the other, that individuals' intrinsic motivation to act is found to engage in the transitions towards an economy of well-being. This project explores this theoretical framework further. Businesses play a key role in the transition toward an economy of well-being; they are instrumental in generating multiple types of value and redefining growth. They are key in the creation of the resilient world needed to respond to the complex and uncertain of our era. Varta-Valorisatielab, De-Kleine-Aarde, and Het Groene Brein are frontrunner organizations that understand their impact and influence. They are making bold strategic choices to lead their organizations towards an economy of well-being. Unfortunately, they often experience resistance from stakeholders. To address this resistance, the consortium in the proposal seeks to answer the research question: How can individuals who connect with their multi-identity-self, (via personal values, mental models, and personal context) develop a mindset of well-being that enables them to better connect with their stakeholders (the other) and together address the transitional needs of their collective context for the emergence of a culture of the economy of wellbeing?
