“In-Between” is the title of this conference. If I am right, it focuses on the role of the artist as a middle-man, or middle-woman, between art and learner. It focuses, maybe, on the way artists are capable to transfer knowledge, skills, attitudes, insights, emotions of an artistic nature. And it focuses, maybe, on the way experiences from the domain of the arts may be transferred through the mechanism inherent in the domain of education; two domains which sometimes seem to have a rather problematic relation because the arts are seen as a domain of beauty, of expressivity, of individuality, of freedom, of creativity, whereas education is seen as the domain of standardization, of group work, of compliance to rules, and of mastering the existing.
Extinction Internet is not merely an end-of-the-world phantasy of digital technology that one day will be wiped out by an electromagnetic pulse or the cutting of cables. Rather, Extinction Internet marks the end of an era of possibilities and speculations, when adaptation is no longer an option. During the internet’s Lost Decade, we’ve been rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic under the inspirational guidance of the consultancy class. What’s to be done to uphold the inevitable? We need tools that decolonize, redistribute value, conspire and organize. Join the platform exodus. It’s time for a strike on optimization. There is beauty in the breakdown.Extinction Internet is Geert Lovink’s inaugural lecture, held on November 18, 2022 as Professor of Art and Network Cultures, within Modern and Contemporary Art History, Faculty of Humanities, University of Amsterdam.

Creating and testing an innovative HRM VR service: “Experience your first day at work” for AEGON Realizing and testing a Virtual Reality (VR) world based on the Aegon candidate journey, in order to provide candidates with a unique and innovative Aegon experience. In doing so, turn the Aegon application journey into a memorable experience and attract new types of employees. Aegon deals with a sector in which it is difficult to attract new type of young talent employees. Aegon is optimizing the ‘Aegon candidate experience journey’ to get the best candidates and let them feel being part of Aegon as from the start. To do this, it is important that Aegon digitally captures all important experience moments in the journey. The solution was to ‘Experience a day at Aegon in VR’. Creating an enriching Aegon customer experience journey, by means of real-time CG VR and 360o movies, so that candidates feel like having worked at Aegon. A cinematic based building experience is created in which a water based surrounding will slowly become the main hall of the Aegon building (experience the beauty and size of the main hall). In the building the candidate can access different 360O picture and movie experiences of important candidate touchpoints and feel present among Aegon staff. Research showed the added value of a VR experience compared to traditional media experiences.
