The EU project X-TEAM D2D focuses on future seamless door-to-door mobility, considering the experiences from Air Traffic Management and the currently available and possible future transport modalities in overall multimodal traffic until 2050. This paper deals with developing a Concept of Operations of an intermodal transport system with special consideration of the pabengers' satisfaction with up to 4-hour journeys. For this purpose, the influences of quality management systems and other organizational facilities on the quality of pabenger travel in the transport system were examined. In the study, integration of various management systems, like resources, traffic information, energy, fleet emergency calls, security and infrastructure, and applications such as weather information platforms and tracking systems, is expected.
1. Purpose of the ResearchThe research aims at developing a concept of operations (ConOps) that could connect aviation and all existing and future transport modes into an overall efficient transport network. Such ConOps should provide future passengers with a rapid and seamless travel experience.2. Research design, Methodology or ApproachThis paper describes a ConOps based on an ATM (Air Traffic Management) for a holistic traffic management system. For this purpose, the influences of quality management systems and other organizational facilities on the quality of passenger travel were examined. Various management systems like resources, traffic information, energy, fleet emergency calls, security and infrastructure, and applications such as weather information platforms and tracking systems have been integrated.3. Expected research findingsThe ConOps is intended to pave the way to cross-modal traffic management, in which the preferences of the travellers have a high priority. The first results show that the needs of the passengers can only be met in advance, and the traffic resources can only be used economically through close cooperation and coordination of these management systems and applications with regard to possible synergies and interactions.4. Summary of the originality/contributionTo develop these ConOps, general and traffic management systems next to basic principles of quality management were researched in the literature, which could be summarized in a Total Traffic Management System (TTM). The ATM experience served as a model example. The ConOps can be used as a basis to build a previously non-existing TTM that can be used to manage the future of travelling and future transport modes.

Abstract: Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma have a high prevalence and disease burden. Blended self-management interventions, which combine eHealth with face-to-face interventions, can help reduce the disease burden. Objective: This systematic review and meta-analysis aims to examine the effectiveness of blended self-management interventions on health-related effectiveness and process outcomes for people with COPD or asthma. Methods: PubMed, Web of Science, COCHRANE Library, Emcare, and Embase were searched in December 2018 and updated in November 2020. Study quality was assessed using the Cochrane risk of bias (ROB) 2 tool and the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation. Results: A total of 15 COPD and 7 asthma randomized controlled trials were included in this study. The meta-analysis of COPD studies found that the blended intervention showed a small improvement in exercise capacity (standardized mean difference [SMD] 0.48; 95% CI 0.10-0.85) and a significant improvement in the quality of life (QoL; SMD 0.81; 95% CI 0.11-1.51). Blended intervention also reduced the admission rate (relative ratio [RR] 0.61; 95% CI 0.38-0.97). In the COPD systematic review, regarding the exacerbation frequency, both studies found that the intervention reduced exacerbation frequency (RR 0.38; 95% CI 0.26-0.56). A large effect was found on BMI (d=0.81; 95% CI 0.25-1.34); however, the effect was inconclusive because only 1 study was included. Regarding medication adherence, 2 of 3 studies found a moderate effect (d=0.73; 95% CI 0.50-0.96), and 1 study reported a mixed effect. Regarding self-management ability, 1 study reported a large effect (d=1.15; 95% CI 0.66-1.62), and no effect was reported in that study. No effect was found on other process outcomes. The meta-analysis of asthma studies found that blended intervention had a small improvement in lung function (SMD 0.40; 95% CI 0.18-0.62) and QoL (SMD 0.36; 95% CI 0.21-0.50) and a moderate improvement in asthma control (SMD 0.67; 95% CI 0.40-0.93). A large effect was found on BMI (d=1.42; 95% CI 0.28-2.42) and exercise capacity (d=1.50; 95% CI 0.35-2.50); however, 1 study was included per outcome. There was no effect on other outcomes. Furthermore, the majority of the 22 studies showed some concerns about the ROB, and the quality of evidence varied. Conclusions: In patients with COPD, the blended self-management interventions had mixed effects on health-related outcomes, with the strongest evidence found for exercise capacity, QoL, and admission rate. Furthermore, the review suggested that the interventions resulted in small effects on lung function and QoL and a moderate effect on asthma control in patients with asthma. There is some evidence for the effectiveness of blended self-management interventions for patients with COPD and asthma; however, more research is needed. In het kader van het Hoogwaterbeschermingsprogramma (HWBP) neemt de vraag naar klei voor het versterken van dijken toe, echter is het aanbod beperkt. Dit voorstel richt zich op ontwikkelen van nieuwe duurzame en kosteneffectieve technieken die het mogelijk maken om zout sediment uit estuaria in te kunnen zetten voor de dijkversterkingsopgave. Gebiedseigen materiaal, met name het zoute slib, kan worden ingezet voor klei productie in lokale dijkverzwaring en draagt bij aan duurzaam grondstoffenverbruik, klimaatadaptatie en de ecologische kwaliteit van estuaria. Met het project “Ontzouten rijpend slib voor Deltabescherming” gaan het lectoraat Sustainable River Management van de HAN, Ecoshape, Netics in samenwerking met partijen verenigd in het interbestuurlijk project IBP-VLOED onderzoeken hoe zout slib (kosten)effectief kan worden ontdaan van het zout, zodat het gebruikt kan worden in de regionale dijkversterkingsopgave. In IBP-Vloed zijn alle relevante nationale en regionale (semi)overheden, kennisinstellingen en belangenorganisaties vertegenwoordigd die zich richten op hergebruik van slib uit het Eems-Dollard estuarium. Beoogd wordt om een geschikte kosteneffectieve en schaalbare ontzoutingsmethode (strategie) te ontwikkelen die rekening houdt met de samenhang van de governing parameters en de heterogeniteit in samenstelling en structuur van het zoute slib uit estuaria zoals het Eems-Dollard gebied. De resultaten worden gepresenteerd tijdens een workshop en gebundeld in de vorm van best practices.
For the general public harbour and grey seals are the symbol of the Wadden Sea. The Wadden Sea is an ideal environment for seals: sandbanks that fall dry at low tide are important for rest and for suckle pups. However, the total population of harbour seals has first stabilized and later decreased in recent years, while the annual number of pups born has increased, but the mechanisms underlying this mismatch remain unclear. Furthermore, the harbour seal population has declined since 2022, but the cause of this decline is also unknown. The objective of the proposed study is to increase our understanding of the mechanisms underlying the population trends of harbour seals currently observed in the Dutch Wadden Sea. The study will be carried out by a consortium, involving key players involved in seal conservation and research in the Netherlands. Furthermore, to ensure that the research is embedded in the international context, the Common Wadden Sea Secretariat is a partner in the consortium. The consortium partners have concluded that essential monitoring data on harbour seals is missing and therefore we propose to investigate and report on four themes: (1) mapping of governance, stakeholders and data landscape, (2) identifying mechanisms underlying the observed population numbers, by reviewing available evidence and exploring possible mechanisms, (3) evaluation and improvement of harbour seal monitoring and (4) communication and advice for governance. We will share our findings through reports, scientific papers, infographics, conference presentations, workshops, and proposed monitoring protocols. We will synthesize and communicate our findings targeting four specific groups: (1) the general public (2) the scientific community, (3) educational institutions, and finally (4) the ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality (LNV), providing them with advice on how to advance research, conservation and management of the harbour seal population in the Dutch Wadden Sea.
